COVID-19 cases cross 2,900 in India, 601 cases in last 24 hours

The number of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the country has increased to 2,902 after 601 cases were reported in the last 24 hours. This is so far the highest number of cases reported in a single day in the country. Currently, there are 2,650 active COVID-19 cases, 183 patients have been cured and discharged while 68 have died till date from COVID-19.

The increase in the number of COVID-19 cases over the last week has been attributed to a large number of cases found in connection with the Tablighi Jamaat conference held in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area last month. Tamil Nadu government has reported over 360 COVID-19 cases related to the religious conference in Delhi. Maharashtra has reported the most number of cases (423) followed by Tamil Nadu (411), Delhi (386) and Kerala (295).

The Union Health Ministry suggested that those who are not suffering from any ailments should also wear masks after there were reports that the widespread use of masks can limit the spread of COVID-19. People can also use homemade face covers in absence of masks, an advisory said.
