BJP candidate Arjun Singh attacked in Barrackpore

Arjun Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Barrackpore, received minor injuries on his face on Monday morning outside a booth in the constituency’s Mohanpur area while voting was on. Singh along with his supporters came to fisticuffs with Trinamool Congress supporters.

Singh alleged that Trinamool Congress goons had attacked him. However, state minister Jyotipriya Mullick alleged that Singh had lost the plot and was thus making false allegations.

He said Singh was going around in the constituency in different booths and creating trouble, which the Trinamool Congress supporters and some local people had objected to. In one such booth at Mohanpur, Singh got into a fisticuff with Trinamool Congress men, and was injured in the process, it was alleged.

Arjun Singh had joined the BJP recently after he was not named Trinamool Congress candidate from Barrackpore, which he had demanded from party chief Mamata Banerjee. Trinamool Congress named two-time parliamentarian from the seat, Dinesh Trivedi, from the seat again.
