CBI in Abhishek Banerjee’s house, serves notice to question wife Rujira

Officers served notice in the Kolkata house on Sunday afternoon.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers on Sunday afternoon — at around 2 PM — served a notice in the Kolkata house of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee for his wife Rujira Banerjee to be questioned in connection with the illegal coal trading case in West Bengal that has been under investigation for some time. Abhishek Banerjee is the nephew of West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, and the serving of CBI notice to Abhishek’s wife has created quite a stir in the political circles of poll-bound West Bengal.

The CBI officers have not asked Rujira Banerjee to report to the CBI office, instead they want to question her in her and Abhishek Banerjee’s house on Harish Mukherjee Road. It is close to Mamata Banerjee’s Harish Chatterjee Street house. However, Rujira Banerjee was reportedly not home during this time, and the officers left a phone number for her to call them back so they could question her on Sunday itself.

Anup Maji, alias Lala, has been said to be absconding in connection with the illegal coal trading case that the CBI is probing. He is the prime accused in this case.
