Seven major airports in India have been directed by the Civil Aviation Ministry to screen flyers who are arriving from China to check the spread of Coronavirus infection.
The international airports of Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Delhi and Mumbai have been alerted to carry out thermal screening of arriving passengers, where the disease first broke out and has become a matter of huge concern at the moment. At least 453 people in China have been already found to be infected by the Coronavirus infection, it was reported by the CNN.
Airport authorities in these seven airports have been asking arriving passengers from China if they have symptoms of common cold and fever or have visited the Wuhan City in China – where the disease first broke out – in the past 14 days. Such passengers are being asked to fill up a form making these declarations.
Coronavirus (CoV) is a large family of viruses which cause illnesses ranging from common cold to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
The alert has been issued especially to restrict the spread of the infection as the Chinese New Year on January 24 involves one of the largest annual migrations of humans globally when people are on vacation and travel internationally.
An isolation ward has been created to treat the patients with similar symptoms at the Beliaghata ID Hospital in Kolkata. The health department authorities have said that they are fully equipped to treat cases with this infection.
Cases of the disease have also been reported from Japan, South Korea and Thailand.
