The COVID-19 situation in Bengal has been improving steadily in the state over the past few weeks \u2013 with discharge rate of patients now crossing 77 per cent. On Sunday, the discharge rate was 77.78 per cent in the state.<\/p>\n

So far, the number of COVID-19 patients in the state has been 1,38,870, with 1,08,007 patients treated and discharged. So far, 2,794 persons have died (till August 23), and currently the number of active cases is 28,069.<\/p>\n

There were 37,149 tests done on a single day (August 23) and 3,274 new cases reported on that day. While people are worried at the number of new cases increasing every day, officials say that this is not alarming in comparison with the number of tests being done on a single day. In fact, in terms of percentage, the number of new cases has in fact either remained constant or has come down compared to what it was a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n

The percentage of discharged patients on the other hand, has steadily gone up \u2013 and is currently at 77.78 per cent. Till August 23, there has been 15,61,311 tests done in West Bengal \u2013 in 70 labs across the state.<\/p>\n

Kolkata has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases in West Bengal \u2013 36,257 (including 563 new cases in the past 24 hours), followed by North 24 Parganas \u2013 29,315, Howrah \u2013 12,352 and South 24 Parganas \u2013 9,951.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
