On the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament, for which COVID-19 tests have been made mandatory, 17 members of the Parliament have tested positive, according to reports<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0Out of the 17 MPs, 12 are from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), one each from the DMK, Shiv Sena and RLP and two from the YRS Congress, it was mentioned.<\/p>\n

It was made mandatory for all MPs to get themselves tested for COVID-19 before they attended the session beginning Monday. The Parliament had asked them to get tested 72 hours before the start of the session at any hospital or laboratory authorised by the government or at the Parliament House Complex.<\/p>\n

Several measures have been taken for the Parliament session under the background of COVID-19 situation including use of chambers and galleries to accommodate members as a staggered seating arrangement has been made. Members have been asked to register attendance digitally through mobile application.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 tests were made mandatory for the West Bengal Legislative Assembly as well and the House reopened after six months last Wednesday. However, though it was planned for a two-day session, eventually a decision was taken to hold the session only for one day after eight persons tested positive on the first day of tests.
