Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Salman Khurshid has been named in a chargesheet filed by Delhi Police in the Delhi riots case. He has been accused of giving \u201cprovocative speeches\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to a report by the NDTV<\/span><\/a>, in the 17,000-page chargesheet of September 17, there is a statement from a witness who said: \u201cUmar Khalid, Salman Khurshid, Nadeem Khan\u2026 they all used to give provocative speeches (at anti-CAA\/NRC sit-ins in Delhi) and people used to get mobilised.\u201d<\/p>\n

The name of the person whose statement has been quoted has not been named by the police however, in order to protect the witness\u2019 identity. The NDTV report mentions that the police claimed the witness was part of the \u201ccore team of conspirators\u201d who were accused of plotting the riots. Not just this witness, Khurshid has been named by another accused for giving speeches at protest sites.<\/p>\n

Apart from Salman Khurshid, CPIM leader Brinda Karat, lawyer Prashant Bhushan and activist Yogendra Yadav have also been named in the chargesheet. The Delhi riots took place in February this year, in which 54 persons were killed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
