The body of the 20-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh\u2019s Hathras was cremated in the middle of the night \u201cto avoid large-scale violence\u201d the next morning, the state government told the Supreme Court on Tuesday. The UP government told the apex court in an affidavit that there were intelligence inputs about \u201cmajor law and order problems\u201d, according to a report of the NDTV<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The government said that there was an alert due to the Babri Masjid verdict the day before. The UP government said that \u201cthe whole issue was being exploited and a caste\/communal colour was being given\u201d to the incident.<\/p>\n

The Yogi Adityanath government in UP has been criticised for the brutal handling of case of rape and murder of the 20-year-old woman. The gang-raped woman who died last week was cremated in the dead of night by the police without the family\u2019s presence. The UP Police took away her body from the hospital to the village and cremated the body forcibly and locked the family in their home. The brutal killing and the inhuman, forcible cremation has led to nation-wide anger.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
