Subhendu Adhikary \u2013 who stepped down as minister from the Mamata Banerjee cabinet on November 27 \u2013 is likely to resign as MLA today. Adhikary is expected to call on the Speaker of the state Assembly, Biman Banerjee, on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

It is also learnt that the Nandigram MLA will resign as member of the Trinamool Congress as well.<\/p>\n

Since he resigned as a state minister, there have been constant speculations on Adhikary\u2019s next course of action. Even after his resignation as minister, the Trinamool Congress top leadership held discussions with him in order to try and resolve the differences. Senior leaders such as Sougata Roy, Sudip Bandopadhyay, the party\u2019s poll strategist Prashant Kishor as well as MP Abhishek Banerjee, were part of such a meeting.<\/p>\n

But all of it eventually led to a dead end. Adhikary sent a message to Roy saying he could not work with them anymore in a situation where his trust was betrayed. It was clear that Subhendu Adhikary and the Trinamool Congress were moving in different directions. Perhaps a formal step towards that is going to be taken on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

There are talks that Subhendu Adhikary, who had a long association with Mamata Banerjee, may soon join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Whatever his next move after resigning as MLA and from the Trinamool Congress, things will be clear in a few more days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
