Mamata Banerjee\u2019s former cabinet colleague Subhendu Adhikary \u2013 who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at a meeting on Saturday in presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah \u2013 went for an all-out attack on the Trinamool Congress chief and her nephew MP Abhishek Banerjee.<\/p>\n
At the dais in presence of Shah and all senior national and Bengal leaders, Adhikary \u2013 in his debut speech as a BJP leader \u2013 said that the \u201cextortionist nephew\u201d must be weeded out. Though he did not mention him by name, there were plenty of references for political insiders to point out that the subject of his attack was the Trinamool MP from Diamond Harbour, Mamata Banerjee\u2019s nephew Abhishek. They also pointed out that Adhikary’s attack was unambiguous and brutal.<\/p>\n
There have been differences between Subhendu and Abhishek for years now, and it appears that one of the reasons for Adhikary\u2019s exit has been the junior Banerjee. In his other recent public meetings too \u2013 when Subhendu Adhikary spoke as a leader without the stamp of any political party \u2013 he had referred to the issue of nepotism and how he had worked hard to be where he is now, and had not used elevators, but used the stairs. His point of attack then too, had been Abhishek Banerjee, no doubt.<\/p>\n
Referring to an earlier allegation that he had betrayed \u201cthe mother, Mamata Banerjee\u201d Subhendu Adhikary today clarified that he had only two mothers \u2013 his biological parent and the motherland, \u201cand no one else\u201d. While the Trinamool Congress has not reacted yet to his various allegations, senior leader Firhad Hakim said that those who have left the party will eventually benefit the Trinamool Congress.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
