Union minister of health and family welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda said that India has surpassed the United Nations&#8217; Millennium Development Goals (MDG) that aimed to bring down MMR to 139 by 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe latest\u00a0Sample Registration System (SRS) figures reveal that India has gone beyond the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) target of\u00a0MMR of 139 by 2015. We reached 130,\u201d the Union Minister was quoted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aninews.in\/news\/national\/general-news\/indias-maternal-mortality-ratio-drops-to-130201806062244430004\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">saying .<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, the United Nations Development Programme&#8217;s (UNDP) report states that the aim was to decline the rate to 109 by 2015. It <a href=\"http:\/\/www.in.undp.org\/content\/india\/en\/home\/post-2015\/mdgoverview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">states<\/span> <\/a>that \u201cIndia is required to reduce MMR to 109 per 100,000 live births by 2015. Between 1990 and 2006, there has been some improvement in the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), which has declined to 167 per 100,000 live births in 2009.
