Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday explained at a public meeting in Nadia\u2019s Ranaghat why some of her party colleagues have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).<\/p>\n
\u201cMany have made a lot of money, but why are they still going to the BJP?\u201d Banerjee asked and added, \u201cI\u2019ll tell you why. They are being threatened: \u2018if you want to keep your money, join the BJP\u2019, \u2018if you want to make money, join the BJP\u201d. She said that cases were being prepared by Central investigating agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), to make these leaders join the BJP. \u201cThey know they won\u2019t win those cases, but they are still preparing documents to slap charges and to fight cases in courts. You will see the outcome and then you will know,\u201d Banerjee said at the public meeting.<\/p>\n
Senior leaders in the Trinamool, such as Subhendu Adhikary, have recently joined the BJP. There is a buzz that more leaders from the party may likely join the saffron party ahead of the 2021 Assembly elections in Bengal.<\/p>\n
Banerjee also said that all the junk was now accumulating in the BJP and she called the party \u201cBharatiya Junk Party\u201d. \u201cIt is a miracle what kind of a washing machine they have or washing powder they use that people in our party are dirty and when they join the BJP they all become clean,\u201d she said, laughing.<\/p>\n
Speaking at Ranaghat, where the citizenship issue is significant especially among 40 per cent voters who are Matuas, Banerjee said: \u201cWho can take away your citizenship? You are already citizens.\u201d Banerjee said that the CAA was misleading and could lead to more people losing citizenship, the way some 12 lakh people in Assam had found their names not included.<\/p>\n
She said that \u201coutsiders\u201d were invading Bengal ahead of the elections, and claiming that nothing has happened in Bengal and they would create \u201cSonar Bangla\u201d. \u201cI say that Sonar Bangla exists, it is already there,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
