A court in West Bengal has summoned Union Home Minister Amit Shah in connection with a case lodged by Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. A special court for MPs and MLAs in Bidhannagar \u2013 adjoining Kolkata \u2013 summoned Shah \u201cto appear personally\/by pleader\u201d on February 22 at 10 AM.<\/p>\n
Shah\u2019s address has been mentioned as 6 Muralidhar Sen Lane, the Bharatiya Janata Party\u2019s headquarters in West Bengal, in Kolkata.<\/p>\n
BJP sources said that lawyers will decide whether or not he would appear personally. A BJP leader from West Bengal said that the legal \u201cattack\u201d would be responded to legally.<\/p>\n
Trinamool Congress sources said that the matter concerns a BJP rally in Kolkata\u2019s Mayo Road on August 11, 2018, in which Shah had reportedly made allegations against Abhishek Banerjee for involvement in various chit fund scams. On August 28, a defamation case was filed by Banerjee.<\/p>\n
Abhishek Banerjee has taken legal steps against other BJP leaders too for allegations they have made in public meetings against him. He has publicly stated that he would accept legal action if allegations made against him by the BJP leaders can be proved.
