Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi from the same ground in Hooghly district where he had addressed a public meeting just two days back. Speaking at her party\u2019s public meeting, Banerjee said PM Modi had backed Donald Trump, and Modi would \u201cface defeat worse than that of Donald Trump\u201d. In 2019, Modi and Trump were on the same stage in Houston at a rally which was attended by over 50,000 members of the Indian diaspora<\/strong><\/a>, where Modi had praised and backed Trump. She also called Modi the biggest dangabaaj <\/em>(rioter).<\/p>\n

Some recent developments were also referred to by Banerjee in her speech. Referring to the CBI officers questioning wife of her nephew Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee (without mentioning names), Banerjee said: \u201cthe women from our homes are being accused of being coal thieves, but your men have hired a hotel in Durgapur owned by a coal mafia.\u201d Banerjee stopped short of mentioning the name of the owner of the hotel, stating “mentioning such names are not befitting for a chief minister”. Abhishek\u2019s wife Rujira was questioned by the CBI yesterday, in connection with the illegal coal trading case in West Bengal that has been under investigation for some time. His sister-in-law has also been questioned by the CBI the day before. Referring to PM Modi, Banerjee added: \u201cIt is you who is filled with dirt.\u201d<\/p>\n

Banerjee said that while the Prime Minister had accused the state of not making any progress in industry, it is the Centre that had not allowed the West Bengal government to take over the Dunlop and Jessop companies, pushing hundreds of workers into poverty. \u201cWe had made the request in 2016, but it hasn\u2019t been allowed yet.\u201d She also accused BJP leaders of staying in the Sarat Bose Road house of the Dunlop and Jessop owner, industrialist Pawan Ruia.<\/p>\n
