Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that the entire country is looking at the Bengal Assembly elections so that this can pave the way for a country-wide movement to oust Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre in 2024.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe country is looking at us with a lot of expectation. They will breathe a sigh of relief if the BJP is defeated, because once the BJP is defeated here, it will be the beginning of a country-wide movement to oust the party from the Centre,\u201d she said at a meeting in East Midnapore. She held back-to-back meetings in Haldia, Panskura and Khejuri today.<\/p>\n
She also attacked her once close-aide and now BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari (though she did not name him) for walking out for \u201cpersonal gains\u201d. Banerjee said the leader used to punish everyone who did not agree to his ways. She said that she was dissuaded from visiting Singur, Nandigram or Khejuri by the \u2018Mir Jafar\u2019, whenever she wanted to. She said that the \u201cgaddar\u201d (traitor) did not want her to step into \u201chis fiefdom\u201d.
