In view of the rising number of COVID cases, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to not campaign in Kolkata ahead of the polls. Three phases of elections are remaining in Bengal \u2013 which will conclude on April 29. Results of the Assembly elections will be out on May 2.<\/p>\n
Banerjee mentioned her decision \u2013 to not campaign in Kolkata \u2013 at a television interview on Sunday evening. Also, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien tweeted that Banerjee won\u2019t campaign in Kolkata anymore. On April 26, she will only hold a \u201csymbolic\u201d meeting on the last day of campaigning, in Kolkata, he wrote. \u201cMamata Banerjee will NOT campaign in Kolkata anymore. Only one \u2018symbolic\u2019 meeting on the last day of campaigning in the city on April 26. Slashes time for all her election rallies in all districts. There has been a sudden spike in COVID cases across the country, including West Bengal. A single-day spike of 8,419 new cases was reported on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Banerjee also said her party will organise small meetings in Kolkata and short speeches will be delivered in the coming rallies scheduled in various districts.<\/p>\n
