India recorded the world\u2019s biggest spike in COVID-19 with 3.14 lakh new cases in the last 24 hours. This is the world\u2019s biggest-ever daily recorded cases \u2013 higher than the previous highest one-day rise in the world of 2,97,430 cases in the United States in January. There were 2,104 deaths recorded since yesterday in India.<\/p>\n
The situation is grim with shortage of oxygen, hospital beds and the anti-viral drug Remdesivir. Health Minister Harsh Vardhan in a tweet on Wednesday wrote that the government has increased the “quota of oxygen” for seven states \u2013 Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi.<\/p>\n
The states with maximum number of cases recorded in the past one day are Maharashtra (67,468), Uttar Pradesh (33,106), Delhi (24,638), Karnataka (23,558) and Kerala (22,414).<\/p>\n
Amid this devastating surge, polling is being held in West Bengal today in the sixth phase in 43 constituencies of four districts. Campaigning continues with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to attend three poll meetings, Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Dilip Ghosh scheduling four road shows.
