West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee appealed to “all political parties” to “maintain peace and tranquility”. “Please ensure law and order. Strong step against those who create trouble,” Banerjee said, after swearing in as the CM for the third time, at Raj Bhawan.<\/p>\n

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar congratulated Banerjee, saying that “It is not usual to win for a third term, and I hope that the CM will rise to the occasion and take steps beyond politics to bring in peace and order.” There have been reports of post-poll violence after election results were announced on May 2. Trinamool Congress won a landslide victory with 213 seats and the Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning 77 seats.<\/p>\n

Apparently responding to Dhankhar’s comment, Banerjee said that the law and order in West Bengal has been under the Election Commission set-up for the past three months, and now that she had been sworn in and is in charge, she would ensure that no one is spared for creating trouble in the state. She said she would reach Nabanna and create a new set-up and ensure peace is restored, and no one is spared.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
