Mukul Roy, Bharatiya Janata Party vice-president, will join the Trinamool Congress along with his son Subhrangshu. Roy, once the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress, had left the party and joined BJP in 2017. His son, Subhrangshu followed suit.<\/p>\n
Mukul Roy and his son Subhrangshu reached Trinamool Congress headquarters earlier today and started a meeting with Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee. The party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee too is present at the meeting. The “rejoining” of Mukul Roy and his son will take place after the meeting. They will address the media and a formal joining will take place later.<\/p>\n
Mukul Roy and his son had both contested in the Assembly polls of 2021, representing the BJP. Mukul Roy had won from Krishnanagar Uttar constituency, but his son Subhrangshu who had contested from Bijpur could not win. Since the landslide victory of the Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee, there have been voices of dissent from among many who had joined the BJP from Trinamool Congress, criticising “policies” of the saffron party that led to such “disaster”.<\/p>\n
There are speculations that many who had left Trinamool are keen to join back Mamata Banerjee’s party. However, till now, there has been no stated position of Banerjee that has been publicly announced. She herself will decide whether or not to allow the leaders to rejoin her party.<\/p>\n
Since the conclusion of the polls and Trinamool’s win, Subhrangshu Roy has however taken to social media to say that it is important to analyse the failings instead of criticising the party that has people’s support. Mukul Roy himself has skipped the BJP’s meetings called by the state party chief Dilip Ghosh leading to speculations that Roy may be rejoining the Trinamool. But since he and his wife have both been unwell after testing positive for COVID-19, a section of BJP leaders have been saying that it is due to health reasons that Roy has been out of the meetings.<\/p>\n
