Suvendu Adhikary, the leader of Opposition in West Bengal, today said that the Governor\u2019s Budget speech did not have any mention of post-poll violence and so his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had protested in the state Assembly.<\/p>\n
Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, had to cut short his speech due to protests from BJP legislators who shouted slogans, leading to the Governor stopping his speech temporarily. After he began to read his speech again, the BJP MLAs continued to shout slogans along with posters on alleged violence, and Dhankhar left the Assembly building without reading out his full speech. According to rules, the Governor\u2019s speech is prepared by the state government, which the Governor represents.<\/p>\n
Adhikary, speaking at a press conference later, said: \u201cThe speech did not mention post poll violence. Trinamool Congress goons and the police\u2019s lack of action have not been mentioned there. This is the reason we have objected to it.\u201d Adhikary added that incidents of violence have not been made part of the speech despite the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission. \u201cThere have been 9,000 FIRs and torching of 7,000 homes. There are lakhs away from their homes,\u201d Adhikary alleged.<\/p>\n
