Adhikari said this in Chinsurah of Bengal\u2019s Hooghly district.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is the big hurry?\u201d he asked, speaking to journalists after a party meeting in the district, adding that the COVID-19 situation in the state was \u201calarming\u201d and many had not received even the first dose of vaccine. \u201cThose who can\u2019t organise civic body polls for so long, nor run local trains, are now hurrying to press for Assembly elections. Local trains not running is indicative of the fact that the pandemic situation is far from normal, and attempts are being made to reduce official figures,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>A team of Trinamool Congress leaders called on the Election Commission of India to organise the pending election and byelection in seven Assembly seats of the state urgently. The team said that the COVID-19 is now under control and thus the pending elections should be held as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Adhikari said that if the BJP can choose one of its MLAs to be the chief minister in Uttarakhand, the same could be done in West Bengal. \u201cThere are so many MLAs in Trinamool Congress. Surely one of them can be made CM? Why can\u2019t it happen?
