West Bengal Leader of Opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party\u2019s (BJP) Suvendu Adhikari has written to the state\u2019s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to say that he won\u2019t be able to appear for questioning in their office today.<\/p>\n
Adhikary was summoned by the CID in connection with the mysterious death of a police jawan who worked as his bodyguard. He wrote to the CID authorities earlier today stating that he had several scheduled programmes today, including some political programmes, and thus he would not be able to appear for the questioning. It is not yet known whether the CID authorities would ask him to appear on another date or take action against him for not appearing.<\/p>\n
Suvendu\u2019s brother Dibyendu Adhikari \u2013 who is a Trinamool Congress MP \u2013 has already been questioned in this connection.<\/p>\n
The CID is probing the \u201cmysterious death\u201d of Subhabrata Chakraborty, who worked as Suvendu Adhikari\u2019s bodyguard and allegedly died by suicide in September 2018. His wife Suparna Chakraborty, had lodged a complaint with Contai police two months back, demanding a probe into her husband\u2019s death. Officers have already visited her house in East Midnapore and spoken with her and other family members.<\/p>\n
Subhabrata Chakraborty was part of Adhikari\u2019s security arrangement for nearly seven years. On September 13, 2018, he was found injured in the police barrack at around 11 am. He had a bullet injury in the head. He was admitted in Contai Hospital throughout the day, and was taken to a Kolkata hospital later in the night. He passed away the following day.<\/p>\n
His wife, a resident of Mahishadal in East Midnapore in her complaint demanded a probe stating that she never got answers as to why her husband \u201cdespite being\u201d a bodyguard of Suvendu Adhikari, could die under such mysterious circumstances. She has also inquired about the \u201cdelay\u201d in shifting him to a Kolkata hospital. She has written in her complaint that she was quiet for so long as Adhikari is a \u201cpowerful\u201d leader in the district and she was afraid to speak out against him. She has also mentioned in her complaint the role of some leaders considered \u201cclose\u201d to Adhikari.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
