The West Bengal government is preparing hybrid critical care units in 79 hospitals across the state to remain prepared in case of a possible third wave of Coronavirus. Each hospital will have 24-bed units for such critical care. The state health department is preparing the set-ups soon. The units are being called \u201chybrid\u201d due to their features being a mix of critical care units (CCU) and high dependence units (HDU).<\/p>\n

The hospital authorities and chief medical health officers will have to prepare detailed plans and possible expenditure for such units by September 12.<\/p>\n

In cities, these hospitals include National Medical College, Calcutta Medical College, NRS, RG Kar and hospitals in Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Howrah, Hooghly, Birbhum, and so on. Hospitals have been selected to ensure that affected people from all districts across the state can benefit.<\/p>\n

During the second wave of Coronavirus in the state, some patients had to be shifted to other hospitals for critical care due to the absence of facilities where they had been initially admitted. Keeping this in mind, the state health department authorities are preparing these units ahead of any immediate emergency situation.<\/p>\n

Several other specifications such as the area, setting them up separated from other units, number of medical and paramedical staff for each etc. have also been mentioned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
