West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday asked senior officers of her government to speed up work and to not keep work pending. \u201cPendency is a tendency,\u201d she said at the administrative meeting of Howrah district, where several projects of the district were inaugurated.<\/p>\n
She asked officials to get rid of this tendency and clear pending work so that they can go to sleep \u201cpeacefully\u201d. \u201cKeep a diary and note down pending work. Some people use handsets as well, to maintain notes,\u201d she said. Banerjee has been holding administrative meetings with top bureaucrats for two days \u2013 yesterday, a meeting was held with officials of North 24 Parganas district.<\/p>\n
The CM discussed various aspects of the administration \u2013 and asked officials to speed up the pending work and to report to her. At the meeting, Banerjee focused on the need to develop industries \u2013 particularly in Howrah district that has been an industrial centre for decades \u2013 and asked the land department to not delay land clearances necessary for setting up industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy focus is industry. And land department officials should not keep clearances on hold for setting up industries,\u201d Banerjee told the top officials. The Bengal government is expecting investments to the tune of Rs 10,480 crore in Howrah for the next two years, which will lead to creation of more than 1 lakh jobs, she said.
