Three controversial farm laws that led to massive farmer protests across the country will be withdrawn, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today.<\/p>\n
The announcement came on Guru Purab festival, when Sikhism founder Guru Nanak\u2019s birth anniversary is celebrated.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe something was lacking in our\u00a0tapasya<\/em>, which is why we could not convince some farmers about the laws. But today is\u00a0Prakash Parv<\/em>, not the time to blame anyone. I want to tell the country that we have decided to repeal the three farm laws,\u201d PM Modi said in an address to the nation. \u201cWhatever I did was for farmers. What I am doing is for the country,\u201d the PM added.<\/p>\n Hundreds of farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan have been protesting outside Delhi since November 2020, demanding that the farm laws be withdrawn.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have not been able to convince the farmers. Only a section of them was opposing the laws, but we kept trying to inform them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The Opposition and farmers accused the government of clearing the farm laws in the Parliament without discussion.
