West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar today said that appointments of vice-chancellors of 24 universities in the state were made without his approval, and amounted to defiance of orders.<\/p>\n
Dhankhar wrote on Twitter: \u201cThese are ex facie in defiance of specific orders or without approval of Chancellor \u2013 the Appointing Authority. These appointments carry no legal sanction and would be forced to take action unless soon recalled.\u201d He is the ex-officio chancellor of the state-run universities, including Calcutta University, Jadavpur University and Presidency University.<\/p>\n
\u201cVCs of 24 Universities appointed @MamataOfficial in disregard of law,\u201d the Governor also mentioned in his tweet.<\/p>\n
Reacting to this, Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy said that the state government has \u201cdone nothing wrong\u201d in taking the step. \u201cHe (the Governor) sits on files and doesn\u2019t release them, and work cannot progress like this. In any case, the role of the Governor in being the Appointing Authority is also being reviewed, so there\u2019s nothing wrong with the appointments,\u201d Roy said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
