The death of a 27-year-old resident of north Kolkata in mysterious circumstances has led to political tension in Bengal under the backdrop of Union Home Minister Amit Shah\u2019s visit to the state.<\/p>\n

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that the deceased \u2013 Arjun Chowrasia \u2013 was a member of the party\u2019s youth wing. Trinamool MLA Atin Ghosh however, said that the deceased had worked for Trinamool Congress during the recent civic body polls.<\/p>\n

Chowrasia was found hanging in an abandoned building near his home in Cossipore. According to some reports<\/a>, he was to lead a bike rally later in the day in one of the events planned for Amit Shah. BJP alleged that he was murdered by workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress, which the latter has denied.<\/p>\n

Leaders and workers of both parties protested outside the house of Chowrasia. The BJP, in a tweet, wrote: \u201cArjun Chowrasia, 27, BJYM Mondal Vice-President, North Kolkata was brutally slaughtered and hanged. This continuous slaying of opponent political workers highlights the demise of democracy in West Bengal. 57 BJP workers were massacred in the last year. Humanity is smothered by the TMC!\u201d<\/p>\n

Shah reportedly asked his party to cancel the events planned to welcome him. He is scheduled to visit Chowrasia\u2019s home later in the day. He is on a two-day visit to Bengal.
