West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that there is need to create more districts in the state to expedite development work. There is need for more officers for this, she said. Banerjee was speaking at a meeting with state civil service officers.<\/p>\n
Banerjee said that the 23 districts in Bengal may some day become 46 through splitting the existing administrative and area set-up. \u201cWe need to divide the districts as they are very large. If these are divided, work will be expedited. And for that, we need more officers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The Bengal CM accused the Central government of not releasing funds to the state. \u201cI came to know that the Centre has not released funds for 100-day work since December last year. How will people work if they are not paid? The Central government collects revenue from states and shares a minuscule portion of it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
In the past few years, three new districts \u2013 Alipurduar, Kalimpong, Jhargram were formed as new districts and Burdwan was split into two districts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
