Sayantika Das, a class II student from Malda district, had planned to cycle 350 km to reach Kolkata from her home to reach Harish Chatterjee Street and meet chief minister Mamata Banerjee. She altered her plan on the CM’s suggestion that she should not cycle for such a long distance and instead took a train to Kolkata then cycled from Sealdah station to reach the CM\u2019s home on Thursday.<\/p>\n

She thanked the CM for her schemes meant for students, especially girls, in Bengal. The chief minister shared the news along with pictures of this unique meeting on her social media account: \u201cI am delighted to meet with Sayantika who rode all the way from Malda, along with her parents. She and her sisters have benefitted from several GoWB flagship schemes like Kanyashree and Sabooj Sathi. Young girls like her will take Bengal to greater heights and we must keep nurturing them, ensuring that all their dreams come true. I wish her the very best for all her future endeavors.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sayantika is the youngest daughter of Pradip Das, who runs a small business and Uma, a homemaker. The little girl had reportedly carried with her amsatwa (mango candy) as a gift for the CM.<\/p>\n

While Sayantika wanted to cycle all the way to Kolkata to meet the CM, the district magistrate\u2019s office had called her parents and said that the CM did not want the little girl to cycle such a long distance. The family received train tickets to reach Kolkata and from Sealdah she rode in her bicycle to reach the CM\u2019s house.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
