West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said that people in the country would vote against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) even if one particular face wasn’t pitted against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 Lok Sabha polls.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be \u2018no\u2019 to the BJP and \u2018yes\u2019 to the others. The others will work as a family,\u201d she said at an interactive session organised by a private television channel in Kolkata. \u201cThe Opposition leaders are not important, the country is important. Unity in diversity is important,\u201d she said, answering a question.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople will vote with the thought that \u2018let BJP go first. There will be collective leadership. Many regional parties will understand that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Banerjee added that two people were running the country currently and that citizens were afraid of the Prime Minister. She said this is uncalled for in a democracy.<\/p>\n
The Bengal CM alleged that her trip to Chicago \u2013 where she was to attend a programme to mark the 125th<\/sup> year of Swami Vivekananda\u2019s speech there \u2013 had been cancelled due to threats issued by some Hindu groups. She said Hindu fundamentalism had reared its ugly head in the country and people were being threatened.
