A contractor was killed and vehicles used in road construction were set on fire at Dornapal region of Chhattisgarh in Dantewada on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The first phase of the Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh started on Monday, November 12. It involved polling in 18 Assembly constituencies \u2013 12 of which were in the Bastar area \u2013 a forested area where Maoists are said to be dominant and \u201cactive\u201d.<\/p>\n
Over 16,500 polling personnel were sent by road and another 900 personnel were sent by helicopters to the polling booths to conduct elections. Elections were held in 4,336 polling stations. The next phase of elections in Chhattisgarh is scheduled on November 20 \u2013 when elections for the remaining 72 seats will be conducted. Counting for both phases will be held on the same day \u2013 December 11.<\/p>\n
Thursday\u2019s incident follows another incident of violence in Chhattisgarh \u2013 in which five security personnel and one civilian were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in Bijapur district. Prior to that, two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces, just as the first phase of Assembly elections in the state was about to be concluded.<\/p>\n
