In the backdrop of a Facebook post, the students of Jadavpur University have demanded the expulsion of Professor Kanak Sarkar over his regressive comments on the issue of women\u2019s virginity. The students held a demonstration on the university campus seeking the same.<\/p>\n
According to one protester, the professor is a \u2018repeat offender\u2019. Harbouring and promoting such a misogynistic mindset is not acceptable, especially in an environment which nurtures young minds, the protester noted.<\/p>\n
The Professor has compared the virginity of a woman to a \u2018sealed bottle or packet\u2019 in his Facebook post, according to reports. The post was later deleted.<\/p>\n
The National Women\u2019s Commission team led by Rekha Sharma is set to make a scheduled visit to West Bengal this month. This matter will be discussed with the Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University during the meeting. In the meanwhile, the Commission has also sought action from Kolkata Police.
