Congress President Rahul Gandhi has written to the West Bengal Chief Minister ahead of the United India Rally scheduled to be held in Kolkata on Saturday. Expressing his support to \u2018Mamata Di\u2019, the Congress president has written that the \u201centire opposition is united\u201d and that the rally would send out a \u201cpowerful message of a united India\u201d.<\/p>\n
Stating that \u201cnationalism and development\u201d can only be \u201cdefended\u201d on the \u201cpillars of democracy, social justice and secularism\u201d, Rahul Gandhi has added that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are \u201cintent on destroying\u201d such ideals. Speaking of the \u201cidea of India\u201d, the Congress President pointed out that \u201cmillions of Indians\u201d have seen through the \u201clies peddled by the Modi government\u201d. The current regime\u2019s \u201cfalse promises\u201d have generated \u201canger\u201d and \u201cdisappointment\u201d.<\/p>\n
To be attended by prominent political luminaries, the United India Rally is being looked upon to be a major show of strength by anti-BJP parties ahead of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled in May.<\/p>\n
Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, his son and chief minister of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Samajwadi Party\u2019s Akhilesh Yadav, National Conference leaders Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, NCP chief Sharad Pawar and RJD\u2019s Tejashwi Yadav are some of the dignitaries to attend the rally.<\/p>\n
Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are not going to be present, but Mallikarjun Kharge and Abhishek Manu Singhvi will represent the Congress at Saturday\u2019s rally. Mayawati won\u2019t be present either. Her party will be represented by Satish Mishra.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
