West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has stated that the BJP was \u2018distorting information and misleading\u2019 the masses.<\/p>\n
The BJP had sought permission for the landing of the party\u2019s national president Amit Shah\u2019s helicopter at Malda airport. He is scheduled to address a rally there on January 22. Permission had been denied citing the \u2018ongoing construction work\u2019. Receiving this news as a ploy by the West Bengal government to stop Amit Shah\u2019s rally in Malda, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had commented<\/span> <\/a>that the denial of clearance shows that Mamata Banerjee is \u2018abusing her power\u2019 to refuse permission.<\/p>\n Banerjee reacted sharply, saying she too changes her landing location \u2018on police request\u2019. The Bengal CM maintained that there were \u2018security issues\u2019 for which the police had suggested an alternative landing strip. Permission to hold the rally has been granted by the West Bengal government as it believes in democracy, said Banerjee.<\/p>\n In a letter dated January 18, the District Magistrate had stated that the Malda airport is not \u2018suitable\u2019 for the \u2018safe landing\u2019 of helicopters due to the ongoing upgradation project. The temporary helipad was also unfit for use due to the ongoing work.
