The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) moved the Supreme Court of India on Monday morning, saying the Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev Kumar is a \u201cpotential accused\u201d in the Saradha chit fund scam.<\/p>\n
The hearing will take place tomorrow.<\/p>\n
The CBI has said that Kumar should disclose the evidences he has, adding that the Bengal government was obstructing a court-ordered probe. The CBI has also alleged that there was destruction of electronic evidence in the case.<\/p>\n
This follows a major showdown between the CBI and the Kolkata Police authorities on Sunday evening, after which Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee started a dharna on Esplanade in what she said was a bid to \u201csave democracy\u201d.<\/p>\n
The CBI officers were denied entry by Kolkata Police authorities into the house of Kumar last evening.<\/p>\n
CBI officials allege that state government is obstructing the course of investigation being carried out as the directives of the Supreme Court in the scam case in which many Trinamool leaders are accused to have received monetary benefits.<\/p>\n
Describing the move to be a political witch-hunt, Mamata Banerjee has stated that the Central government is welcome to impose President\u2019s rule in the state. Sitting in a dharna \u2018to save the federal structure\u2019, the chief minister has stated that \u2018this dharna means satyagraha\u2019. Meanwhile, interim CBI chief Nageswara Rao has spoken to the media alleging that Rajeev Kumar has been \u2018instrumental in causing destruction of evidence and obstructing justice\u2019 at the behest of the state government protecting the guilty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
