In the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack, a group of Kashmiri students in Dehradun have alleged that they were asked to vacate their rented flats by their landlords who fear a backlash of violence against the students on their properties. Similar complaints have also emerged from Haryana.<\/p>\n
As reports of harassment and threats against the Kashmiri minority groups trickle in from across the country, the Home Ministry has issued a statement urging state governments to ensure that they remain protected. In its advisory, the Home Ministry has asked the states to adopt all \u2018necessary measures\u2019 to contain the situation.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Mehbooba Mufti \u2013 leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former chief minister \u2013 had also communicated her concerns to the Home Ministry and expressed her \u2018distress\u2019.<\/p>\n
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has also described the Kashmiris living in other parts of India as \u2018soft targets\u2019 in a recent tweet and requested the Home Ministry to take \u2018special care\u2019 to avoid untoward incidents.<\/p>\n
Several helplines have been activated on social media and the Jammu and Kashmir police have assured that anyone who needs their help can contact them. A police spokesperson in Dehradun added that the Jammu and Kashmir police are working in tandem with the Dehradun police to ensure the safety of Kashmiris based outside the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
