The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced the dates of Lok Sabha 2019 elections. Election will be held in seven phases. The date of counting will be May 23.<\/p>\n
Poll dates are the following:<\/p>\n
Phase I:\u00a0April 11 (in 91 constituencies, 20 states)<\/p>\n
Phase II:\u00a0 April 18 (in 97 constituencies, 13 states)<\/p>\n
Phase III: April\u00a0 23 (in 115 constituencies, 14 states)<\/p>\n
Phase IV: April 29 (in 71 constituencies, 9 states)<\/p>\n
Phase V: May 6 (in 51 constituencies, 7 states)<\/p>\n
Phase VI: May 12 (in 59 constituencies, 7 states)<\/p>\n
Phase VII: May 19 (in 59 constituencies, 8 states)<\/p>\n
Single phase election will be held in the following 22 states and union territories: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal, Kerala, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Sikkim, Telengana, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Andaman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, Lakshadweep, Pondicherry, Chandigarh<\/p>\n
There will be two phase election in these four states: Karnataka, Manipur, Rajasthan and Tripura<\/p>\n
There will be three-phase elections in these two states: Assam and Chhattisgarh<\/p>\n
There will be four-phase election in three states: Jharkahnad, MP, Maha, Odisha<\/p>\n
Jammu & Kashmir will have a five-phase election.<\/p>\n
No state will have six-phase election.<\/p>\n
West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will have a seven-phase election.<\/p>\n
Lok Sabha elections are being held for 543 seats.\u00a0Elections will also be held in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Odisha along with the parliamentary polls.<\/p>\n
Some of the key points:<\/p>\n
*The total number of voters has gone up from 81 crore in 2014 to 90 crore this time.<\/p>\n
*Elections will be held in approximately 10 lakh polling stations (this is an increase by 10% from last time).<\/p>\n
*The photographs of candidates can be seen on electronic voting machines (EVMs)<\/p>\n
