Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav has written to other leaders of the Opposition requesting them to stay away from \u201cdebates\u201d held on television channels as they are conducted with the \u201csole aim of denigrating opposition parties\u201d.<\/p>\n
Adding that \u201cpowerful sections of the TV media\u201d were deeply vested in the electoral fortunes of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Tejashwi Yadav called it \u201can open secret\u201d.<\/p>\n
In his letter dated March 8 and addressed to Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) head Mayawati, Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee among others, the RJD leader stated that the some media channels \u201chave not only given up all pretence of impartiality in their conduct of debates on issues of national importance but have gone ahead to spout vitriolic hate.\u201d He further pointed out that the \u201cengagement and presence of the opposition\u201d is used \u201cto lend credibility\u201d to the proceedings on these TV channels and therefore need to be boycotted.<\/p>\n
Calling the \u201cdebates\u201d nothing but \u201cshouting matches\u201d, the leader of the opposition of the Bihar Legislative Assembly noted that the \u201cconspicuous absence of faces and voices from opposition\u201d would stall the plans of the \u201cfunded news channels\u201d in peddling pre-scripted narratives against the Opposition.<\/p>\n
