According to reports, a WhatsApp post timed at 1:23 PM on Friday in a group created by him made derogatory remarks on Trinamool Member of Parliament (MP) Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.

It carried the picture of Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and the sentence – “Banglar lojja Trinamool Congress, Banglar lojja Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.” It also referred to a few disturbing comments attributed to her over the Park Street rape case of 2012.

As per reports, upon being asked why he had made such a post, Sabyasachi Dutta denied having done so and claimed some mischief-maker with knowledge of social media platforms like Facebook must have done it using his phone without his knowing. Requesting others not to ‘use anything which is not known or acceptable’ to him, the Bidhannagar mayor said ‘God knows’ who posted it using his phone.

Speaking to the media, he stated that he is ‘looking into the matter’. Though they belong to the same party, Sabyasachi Dutta and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar have remained arch rivals over a period of time. When Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar was contacted for her reaction, she asked – “Can anyone use someone else’s mobile phone and post something?” She added that she does not have ‘anything to say on this issue’.

The WhatsApp controversy comes close on the heels of another that Sabyasachi Dutta was involved in last week. In another incident last Friday reported by the Trinamool leader, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukul Roy visited the house of Trinamool leader and Salt Lake Mayor Sabyasachi Dutta, sparking rumours that Dutta was joining the BJP. Apparently, Roy was himself keen on visiting his former party colleague for having a meal together.

Questions are being raised as to how journalists came to know about this personal visit so quickly that they reached Dutta’s house before Roy left. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee herself intervened in the matter.

Trinamool Congress leaders are alleging that this has been a strategy adopted by the BJP to create division among the leaders and raise suspicion among colleagues and fellow party workers.

A WhatsApp post apparently made by Bidhannagar mayor Sabyasachi Dutta has stoked fresh controversy.
