Stoking fresh controversy, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jayakaran Gupta has made an offensive remark on Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra calling her a \u2018skirt-wali bai\u2019 referring to her attire, it was reported by NDTV.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a political rally at Meerut, the BJP leader stated that Congress leaders who question the \u2018achhe din\u2019 (good days) ushered in by the Narendra Modi government cannot see that someone who wears skirts \u2018is visiting temples in saris and those who avoid Ganga waters are treating it as holy\u2019.<\/p>\n
Being widely interpreted as a veiled reference to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the BJP leader has come in for sharp criticism over his sexist remarks. Backtracking from his words after facing criticism, Jayakaran Gupta has gone on to add that \u2018many people are doing it\u2019 and there is the need to see who \u2018fits the description\u2019, the NDTV report mentioned.<\/p>\n
Earlier, BJP leader Harish Dwivedi had also remarked that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wore \u2018jeans and top in Delhi\u2019 but changed her attire to \u2018sari and sindoor\u2019 when she set out to campaign in rural areas. The Congress general secretary in charge of the party\u2019s election campaign in Uttar Pradesh along with Jyotiraditya Scindia has been repeatedly subjected to \u00a0sexist comments ever since her debut in active politics.<\/p>\n
BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya had described the political leaders being launched by the Congress to be “chocolate-faced” as the opposition party was faced with the dearth of strong leaders, he stated.<\/p>\n
The Congress has also indulged in equally problematic sexist comments when talking about female leaders of the BJP.<\/p>\n
Sajjan Singh Verma commented on how it was BJP\u2019s \u2018bad luck\u2019 that they did not have \u2018anyone as beautiful as Priyanka Gandhi\u2019 and had to make do with Hema Malini.
