Incidents involving clashes between political parties took place from the very beginning of the\u00a0third phase of the 2019 general elections in West Bengal that began\u00a0at 7 am on Tuesday, April 23.<\/p>\n
This phase of the polls claimed its\u00a0first victim in West Bengal on Tuesday. While one person \u2013 a Congress supporter \u2013 died in Bhagabangola of Murshidabad in poll related violence between supporters of the Congress and\u00a0the Trinamool Congress, two persons \u2013 one of them from the ruling Trinamool Congress and the other from Congress \u2013 were also injured in the same incident. The deceased was identified as Tiarul Shiekh.<\/p>\n
Congress supporters alleged that Trinamool men led the attack against them, which the Trinamool supporters denied. They said that the death was the outcome of an internal feud within the\u00a0Congress.<\/p>\n
Several minor incidents were also reported from various pockets from elsewhere in the state where elections were held today.
\nFor the third phase, polls were held today in\u00a0Balurghat, Malda Uttar, Malda Dakshin, Jangipur and\u00a0Murshidabad seats. In Malda North, cousins Isha Khan Choudhury of Congress\u00a0and MP Mausum Noor of Trinamool Congress are fighting against each other. Left and BJP candidates are also fighting from the same seat.<\/p>\n
Mausam Noor, who had won the seat on a Congress\u00a0ticket in 2014, joined the Trinamool Congress in January this year.
\nIn the Malda Dakshin, veteran and sitting MP Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury, father of Isha Khan Choudhury, is the Congress candidate. The Left has\u00a0not fielded a candidate here as they are supporting Khan Choudhury.<\/p>\n
In Jangipur, Abhijit Mukherjee, son of former President of India Pranab\u00a0Mukherjee, is looking for a hattrick. However, many feel he may not be able to pull it off this time.<\/p>\n
Votes cast were 68.25 per cent in five\u00a0parliamentary seats of West Bengal Till 4 pm.\u00a0 Altogether 61 candidates are seeking votes from 80,23,846 voters here, and polls were held in 8,528 polling stations.<\/p>\n
