West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today distanced herself from the film, Baghini: Bengal Tigress, slated to be released on May 3.
\nThe Opposition parties have raised objection on the date of the film’s release saying it would violate the model code of conduct as a “biopic” on her released amidst electioneering process would take away the level playing field from her rival political leaders and parties and give
\nher undue advantage.
\nActing on the complaints filed, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had asked for a report from the West Bengal chief electoral officer (CEO) Aariz Aftab on the film.
\nBanerjee in the tweet wrote, \u201cWhat is all this nonsense being spread! I have nothing at all to do with any biopic. If some young people have collected stories & expressed themselves, that\u2019s up to them. Not related to us. I am not Narendra Modi\u201d.

\nModi, the release of which now will only happen after the elections are over, May 19.
\nThat Mamata Banerjee has not taken kindly to her name being unnecessarily dragged into a controversy and that too at this crucial phase of election has become clear in the way she ended the tweet. She wrote, “Please do not compel me to file for defamation by spreading lies\u201d.
\nBaghini\u2019s director, Nehal Dutta, has said that the film is not a biopic but one that has been “inspired by” the Bengal CM.
