Congress president Rahul Gandhi has been asked by the Centre to respond to a complaint within two weeks that alleged he is a British citizen.<\/p>\n
BC Joshi, director, (citizenship), in the Home Ministry in his letter to Rahul Gandhi has written that he has been directed to point out that the Ministry had received a complaint from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentarian Subramanian Swamy in which he had mentioned that he had been named as one of the directors and secretary of a company that was registered in the United Kingdom in 2003.<\/p>\n
The complaint said that in the annual return of the company filed in 2005 and 2006 Rahul Gandhi has been mentioned a British citizen. The company was dissolved in 2009. In the dissolution application Rahul Gandhi was also mentioned as a British citizen.<\/p>\n
The official of the home ministry has, on the basis of this complaint, asked the Congress president to give a \u201cfactual\u201d respone. Subramaniam Swamy had brought up this issue in 2015, in a complaint to the Ethics Committee of the Parliament. Rahul Gandhi in his reply had denied the allegation made and had accused the complainant of misleading the nation.<\/p>\n
Reacting to the complaint filed and the government\u2019s response, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said \u201cThey can do whatever they want, but they will lose the election\u201d.<\/p>\n
