{"id":5623,"date":"2019-05-28T17:29:24","date_gmt":"2019-05-28T11:59:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/34.22.110.190\/english\/?p=5623"},"modified":"2021-01-05T03:11:10","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T21:41:10","slug":"trinamool-congress-63-councillors-2-mlas-move-to-greener-pastures-join-the-bjp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/english\/trinamool-congress-63-councillors-2-mlas-move-to-greener-pastures-join-the-bjp\/","title":{"rendered":"Trinamool Congress\u2019 63 councillors, 2 MLAs move to greener pastures, join the BJP"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bharatiya Janata Party\u2019s huge success in the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal has led to the obvious: a large number of lawmakers and councillors from the Trinamool Congress joined the BJP today.<\/p>\n<p>At a press conference in New Delhi, BJP\u2019s Mukul Roy and Kailash Vijayvarghiya announced that 63 Trinamool Congress councillors from three municipal bodies \u2013 Kanchrapara, Halishahar and Naihati in North 24 Paraganas \u2013 have joined the BJP. The number equation has thus led all three municipality boards under Trinamool Congress going to the BJP.<\/p>\n<p>Mukul Roy\u2019s son Subhrangshu Roy \u2013 Trinamool Congress lawmaker from Bijpur who was suspended from the party two days back \u2013 formally joined the BJP today. Asked why it took him so long to join the BJP when the senior Roy had joined the party two years back, Mukul Roy said: \u201cYou must know political strategies \u2013 it means \u2018stay with the Trinamool Congress but help in the voting of the BJP\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The other Trinamool Congress lawmaker to join the BJP was Tushar Bhattacharya from Bishnupur constituency.
