Two men were arrested \u2013 including a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker \u2013 for their alleged role in the murder of a Trinamool Congress leader from Nimta in the northern fringes of Kolkata.<\/p>\n
Nirmal Kundu, the Trinamool Congress president of ward number six of north Dum Dum, was gunned down earlier this week at the Patna Thakurtala area of Nimta. Kundu was standing on the road outside his house when two assailants came on a two-wheeler and gunned him down. The episode has been recorded in CCTV camera. It was not a deserted spot; in fact, many people are eyewitnesses and were left stunned by what they saw. Kundu was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.<\/p>\n
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee will visit the area today and meet Kundu\u2019s family and police officers.<\/p>\n
According to police, supari killers were hired to carry out the murder. Two persons \u2013 Sujay Das and Suman Kundu \u2013 were arrested. One of them is a BJP worker in the area. More people are suspected to be involved in the incident.<\/p>\n
The northern fringes of Kolkata have witnessed several clashes between the Trinamool and the BJP over the past couple of weeks since the election results were announced, and the Trinamool\u2019s performance has been way below the party\u2019s expectations. Even in the run-up to the elections, the area was hardly peaceful.<\/p>\n
