India has become one of the \u201csafest habitats\u201d for tigers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today as he released the All India Tiger Estimation Report 2018. The tiger population in the country has increased from 2,226 in 2014 to 2,967 in 2018, which is an increase of 33 per cent.<\/p>\n
The Prime Minister said that what was decided at St Petersburg \u2013 about doubling the target of tiger population \u2013 has been completed four years early. PM MOdi also said that \u201cthe story that started from \u2018Ek Tha Tiger\u2019 and reached to \u2018Tiger Zinda Hai\u2019 should not end here\u201d, referring to the popular Salman Khan films.<\/p>\n
July 29 is marked as International Tiger Day, to raise awareness on tiger conservation.<\/p>\n
