<\/p>\nFood delivery company Zomato on Tuesday refused to assign a \u201cnon-Hindu\u201d to deliver an order from a customer in Jabalpur of Madhya Pradesh, as per his demands. \u201cFood doesn\u2019t have a religion. It is a religion,\u201d the company tweeted later from its official handle.<\/p>\n
Zomato\u2019s founder Deepinder Goyal, retweeted it and added, \u201cWe are proud of the idea of India \u2013 and the diversity of our esteemed customers and partners. We aren\u2019t sorry to lose any business that comes in the way of our values.\u201d Zomato has been widely appreciated on social media for taking this stand.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, a customer asked the food delivery company to change the delivery executive on learning his name. A Twitter user, identifying himself as Pandit Amit Shukla with the username, @NaMo_SARKAAR, tweeted that he had cancelled his order after a delivery executive named Faiyaz was assigned to deliver his food. He shared the screenshot of the conversation with the support staff who discussed the issue with him.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust cancelled an order on @ZomatoIN they allocated a non hindu rider for my food they said they can’t change rider and can’t refund on cancellation I said you can’t force me to take a delivery I don’t want don’t refund just cancel,\u201d he tweeted.<\/p>\n
He said he was uninstalling the app and would discuss the matter with lawyers. It drew sharp responses from other Twitter users. One of them asked if he had ensured that the person who had cooked the food was a Hindu too. Another user wrote: \u201cInstead of asking lawyer, ask to your conscience\u201d.<\/p>\n
Later, Zomato tweeted: \u201cFood doesn\u2019t have a religion. It is a religion.\u201d Zomato\u2019s official response and the response from the founder was widely appreciated.
