{"id":6614,"date":"2019-09-18T15:54:01","date_gmt":"2019-09-18T10:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/english\/?p=6614"},"modified":"2021-01-05T03:11:00","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T21:41:00","slug":"government-bans-e-cigarettes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/english\/government-bans-e-cigarettes\/","title":{"rendered":"Government bans e-cigarettes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>E-cigarettes will be banned in India with immediate effect, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Explaining the ban, she said that such devices which were initially aimed at reducing tobacco consumption and addiction, are increasing the threat for children taking them up as a source of addiction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt means the production, manufacturing, import\/export, transport, sale, distribution, storage and advertising related to e-cigarettes are banned,\u201d she said at a press conference.<\/p>\n<p>A penalty of up to one year imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh has been fixed for first time violators, according to a draft ordnance.
