{"id":6651,"date":"2019-09-20T15:56:17","date_gmt":"2019-09-20T10:26:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/34.22.110.190\/english\/?p=6651"},"modified":"2021-01-05T03:10:59","modified_gmt":"2021-01-04T21:40:59","slug":"bengal-governor-says-trinamool-secretary-didnt-know-facts-reacts-sharply-to-the-partys-criticism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/english\/bengal-governor-says-trinamool-secretary-didnt-know-facts-reacts-sharply-to-the-partys-criticism\/","title":{"rendered":"Bengal Governor says Trinamool secretary didn\u2019t know facts, reacts sharply to the party\u2019s criticism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar reacted sharply to the <a href=\"https:\/\/thebengalstory.com\/english\/the-governor-went-to-help-bjp-without-taking-government-into-confidence-trinamool-congress-on-babul-supriyo-incident-at-ju\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\">Trimamool Congress\u2019 statement<\/span> <\/a>and said that he had visited Jadavpur University after discussing the matter with chief minister Mamata Banerjee.<\/p>\n<p>In a press statement issued by the office of the Governor, it was said that before his visit to Jadavpur University \u2013 the Governor and Chancellor of JU \u2013 had \u201cexhausted all possible avenues\u201d and had taken up the matter with the state\u2019s DGP and the Chief Secretary\u201d and that \u201cas a final step before going\u201d, the Governor had connected with the state\u2019s chief minister.<\/p>\n<p>It was said in the statement that he had apprised her of the \u201cgrave situation and the consequences it may entail\u201d. The statement also said that there were many telephonic interactions with her which the Governor would not like to divulge in order to respect the high regard for the office of the CM. He added though that \u201che left for the place after sufficient time had elapsed and the situation did not show any change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement said that the Vice chancellor and the pro-Vice Chancellor had left the University and the union minister continued to be detained, and the Governor took the call to connect with the students in his capacity as Chancellor and \u201cbeing the guardian of the students\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he was \u201cconscious of the oath of office\u201d \u2013 which is being seen as a direct attack on the Trinamool Congress statement. In the Trinamool\u2019s statement, the party\u2019s general secretary Partha Chatterjee had written: \u201cwe strongly oppose his [the Governor\u2019s] political views\u201d. The Governor \u2013 a constitutional position \u2013 does not represent a political party or any specific political ideology, but in saying so, Chatterjee had indicated that the Bengal Governor had gone against what he is expected to represent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is unfortunate that the Secretary General of the All India Trinamool Congress, through a press release yesterday, has stated that the Governor did not inform the Government and has not taken the State Govt into confidence before making a visit.
