Experts have suggested to the Mamata Banerjee government that the asphalt covering on Belgachhia bridge should be scraped out in order to reduce its load.<\/p>\n

The carrying capacity of the bridge has weakened over time, and it had to take an increased load of traffic due to buses and other heavy vehicles being re-routed from the Tallah railway overbridge, which is now open only to the small vehicles.<\/p>\n

In order to prevent any mishap due to the increased traffic load, experts have suggested that layers of asphalt from the top of the structure should be taken off, and this will help reduce its weight considerably. The same measure was also suggested for the Tallah railway overbridge as well. However, a final decision on Tallah will be taken on Saturday at a meeting to be taken by the chief minister.<\/p>\n

A specialised machine will be used to do scrape out the outer layers, and it will also help eliminate chances of the structure shaking while the task is carried out. The work will take about a month, officials said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
